John Martin

John Martin is an adjunct professor in Ruth Padawer’s Reporting-Writing I class.

He has been at the Star-Ledger since 2001, covering federal courts & law enforcement. In 2007, he joined the enterprise team, writing, reporting and editing projects and longer pieces, while still dabbling in the daily. He is the one who broke the news the US Atty gave former Attorney General John Ashcroft a $52 million contract, a story that led to Congressional hearing/Ashcroft subpoena/Justice Dept. rule changes). He also produced a three-part series on flaws in the state workers-comp system, which led to several new laws.

He is a 1989 Columbia Journalism school graduate. He was a copy editor at the Philly Daily News and the NY Post (that, while in J-school) and was a reporter at the Allentown Morning Call, covering education & politics. He worked at WashingtonPost.com covering local politics, and at FoxNews.com covering national politics including the 2000 election, where he did some multimedia reporting.
